Itinerary
Upon landing in Kathmandu, you'll be greeted by your Peak Climbing Nepal team and transferred to your hotel in comfort. After settling in and freshening up, you'll have the opportunity to visit the company's head office for an orientation. The evening culminates in a special welcome dinner, marking the beginning of your thrilling Himalayan expedition.
Today is designed for thorough preparation and cultural exploration. Your guides will handle all the expedition paperwork, permits, and logistics, while you take time to explore iconic sites of Kathmandu Valley. Expect to wander through ancient world heritage landmarks—perhaps lingering over a tea in a local café or sourcing last-minute trekking essentials.
Your journey truly begins with a scenic 40-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, where the trail to the Khumbu region unfolds. You'll trek through the charming villages of Chaurikharka and Cheplung, alongside the riverbanks of the Dudh Koshi, before arriving at the serene village of Phakding
Trek through the Sagarmatha National Park, crossing suspension bridges, pine forests, and waterfalls. Ascend into Namche Bazaar, the hub of the Khumbu region. Overnight at a lodge with spectacular mountain views.
Take this day at ease to rest and acclimatize. Explore Namche's cultural treasures—perhaps visit the Sherpa Culture Museum, sip tea at the Irish Pub, or hike up to viewpoints like Everest View Hotel, Khunde, or Khumjung Village for sweeping mountain panoramas.
A gentle descent brings you through rhododendron forests toward Deboche. Soothe your soul with a visit to the historic Tengboche Monastery and absorb the spiritual ambiance while surrounded by the soaring peaks of the Khumbu.
Crossing high ridgelines and trekking past sacred shrines, you’ll move through Pangboche—a village rich in Sherpa tradition—and on to Pheriche, nestled in valleys of stone and prayer flags, flanked by towering walls of mountain.
Another rest day for vital acclimatization, with optional hikes to scenic spots like Dingboche Viewpoint or Nagakarsang Hill. Visit the Himalayan Rescue Association for insights on altitude safety and absorb the culture of Himalayan life.
Today's walk brings you closer to your goal, passing Pangboche and ascending through alpine terrain to the wide-open kharka below Ama Dablam’s soaring summit. Settle into your campsite surrounded by the dramatic forms of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Cholatse, and more.
Today is spent settling into base camp, which lies in a vast alpine meadow beneath the dramatic face of Ama Dablam. The day is dedicated to rest, acclimatization, and gear preparation. Your climbing guides will brief you on the upcoming route, safety protocols, and equipment usage. Meanwhile, the support team organizes loads and prepares high-altitude gear, ensuring everything is ready for the rotations ahead.
The first rotation begins with a gradual climb along rocky moraines and ridges toward Camp I. The trail introduces you to technical terrain, including rock slabs and snowy patches. After reaching Camp I and spending a short time there for acclimatization, you’ll descend back to base camp for rest. This helps the body adapt to higher altitudes while maintaining strength.
After yesterday’s rotation, today is reserved for recovery. You’ll rest at base camp, enjoy nourishing meals, and perhaps take short acclimatization hikes in the surrounding area. This recovery period is vital for building strength and preparing for higher camps.
With improved acclimatization, you’ll ascend once again to Camp I. This time, you’ll stay overnight, testing your ability to sleep at altitude. Camp I offers incredible views of the surrounding peaks, including Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu in the distance.
From Camp I, you’ll climb towards Camp II, tackling more technical rock and mixed terrain. Fixed ropes will guide you across exposed ridges, adding both challenge and excitement. After reaching Camp II and spending some time there for acclimatization, you’ll descend all the way back to base camp for recovery.
Following the demanding climb to Camp II, this is another full rest day at base camp. The focus is on regaining energy, hydrating well, and monitoring altitude adaptation. Guides may also review climbing techniques and finalize summit strategies.
The summit push begins. You’ll climb back up to Camp I, where you’ll spend the night. By now, your body should be well-adjusted to higher elevations, allowing you to move more confidently across the terrain.
Today involves one of the most exciting parts of the expedition: the technical climb from Camp I to Camp II. This section includes steep rock climbing, traverses across exposed ledges, and fixed rope ascents. Camp II is perched dramatically on a narrow platform—one of the most thrilling campsites in the Himalayas.
From Camp II, the route leads through steep ice and snow slopes to Camp III, situated just below the towering summit pyramid. This is a relatively short but demanding climb, requiring steady movement on fixed lines. Camp III provides the staging point for the final summit push.
Today is the pinnacle of your expedition. Starting before dawn, you’ll climb steep snow slopes and negotiate exposed ridges to reach the breathtaking summit of Ama Dablam at 6,812 meters. The view is one of the most spectacular in the Himalayas, with Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and countless other peaks in sight. After savoring the summit moment, you’ll descend carefully to Camp II or Camp III for the night, depending on conditions.
After the exhilaration of summit day, you’ll descend further down to Camp I. This reduces exposure at high altitude and allows your body to rest in more breathable air.
The descent continues as you retrace your steps from Camp I back to Ama Dablam Base Camp. Once here, you’ll celebrate with the team, enjoying warm food, rest, and the comfort of a lower altitude environment.
This day is kept as a buffer in case of bad weather or other unforeseen delays during the summit attempt. If not needed, it can be enjoyed as an extra rest day at base camp before beginning the trek back.
With summit accomplished, your descent begins. Retracing through Pheriche, Deboche, and Pangboche, you return to the serene heights of Tengboche and its revered monastery—a poignant moment of reflection after your climb.
Continuing downhill, the trail leads through picturesque forests, waterfalls, and Himalayan hamlets—an ever-changing landscape guiding you gently back to Namche.
You’ll continue your descent through familiar villages and forested trails until reaching the gateway of Lukla—marking the end of your high Himalayan trek.
After a final journey across the highland air, you’ll return to Kathmandu's valley for rest and reconnection with urban culture—your tented mountain world temporarily behind you.
Enjoy a free day to rekindle your urban explorations—shop, visit ancient temple squares, or perhaps book a spa. In the evening, celebrate your summit achievement with a farewell dinner steeped in Nepali tradition.
Your unforgettable Ama Dablam expedition concludes today. You'll be transferred to the airport to embark on your onward journey, carrying incredible Himalayan memories with you.
