FAQ's for Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour: 1 Day
General
The Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is a one-day scenic flight from Kathmandu that flies over Everest Base Camp and the Khumbu Glacier and lets travelers see Mt. Everest up close, without a 14-day trek.
The Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour takes about 5 to 6 hours from pickup to drop-off, covering the flight to Lukla, the EBC segment, the Hotel Everest View breakfast, and the return flight.
The Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour costs USD 1,150 to USD 1,600 per person on a group-joining basis in 2026, and USD 4,500 to USD 6,500 per helicopter for a private charter.
The package includes the flight, hotel transfers, a window seat, professional pilot, fuel surcharge, and the EBC flyover with a Hotel Everest View landing. It excludes permits and airport tax (about USD 55), breakfast, and travel insurance.
Yes, the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is worth it for travelers who want to see Mt. Everest without a two-week trek, delivering an EBC flyover, Himalayan views, and breakfast at one of the world's highest-placed hotels in one morning.
Yes, you can reach the Everest Base Camp area by helicopter within about 2 hours from Kathmandu, flying over EBC for the views, since it does not set down on Base Camp itself.
No, the helicopter does not land at Everest Base Camp, because the helipad sits on the moving Khumbu Glacier, which cannot safely hold repeated landings, so only expedition flights use it.
On the standard group tour, the highest point is the Everest Base Camp flyover at 5,364 m (17,598 ft). Private flights that land at Kala Patthar reach 5,545 m (18,192 ft). The helicopter does not climb higher, because thin air limits safe lift.
Yes, you can see Mt. Everest clearly on a clear-weather flight, with the aircraft passing Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam, and spring and autumn skies offering the sharpest visibility.
Yes, the tour is safe when run by licensed operators under CAAN rules, with experienced high-altitude pilots flying maintained aircraft, launching only in clear weather, and carrying onboard oxygen.
Yes, mild altitude sickness can occur, because the helicopter climbs from 1,338 m to high altitude without acclimatization, though the short ground time keeps the risk low for most travelers.
If the weather is bad, the flight is delayed, rescheduled, or canceled for safety, and a weather cancellation carries a full refund or a free rescheduled date.
The best time is spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), which bring clear skies and stable weather, with October and November giving the highest visibility.
Yes, children and elderly travelers can join, since the tour needs no trekking and the short flight reduces strain, though children must be accompanied by an adult.
Yes, you need the Sagarmatha National Park permit and the Khumbu municipality permit (about USD 55 with airport tax), and travel insurance covering high-altitude flights and evacuation above 5,000 m is strongly recommended.
Yes, solo travelers can join a group-joining flight and share the cost with up to 4 others, at USD 1,150 to USD 1,600 per person.
Book online through an operator's website or by contacting the Kathmandu office directly, with a passport copy, passenger weight, preferred date, and a partial advance payment to confirm the seat.
