Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking is an amazing trek to the foot of Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,586 m). You will explore the journey to the third-highest peak in the world with a wonderful trekking crew. 

The trail also includes traversing a pathway to Kanchenjunga massif and glacier torrents. There also comes passes, rivers, forests, valleys, viewpoints, waterfalls, and many more natural gifts along the way.

We offer a 26-day package, providing you with professional guidance and accommodation facilities. Here, we have prepared detailed information about the trek to Kanchenjunga Base Camp.

Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking starts and ends with Kathmandu City. We will travel to the east of Nepal and explore the region to reach our destination. Our first stop will be Biratnagar, from where we will head north toward Kanchenjunga Base Camp. 

Our trekking journey begins once we arrive in Suketar. The trail of our entire journey is followed by ridges, rivers, landscapes, lakes, forests, and acclimatization at certain elevations. We will also cross high passes like Mirgin-La Pass (4,663m), Tamo-La Pass (3,900m), Dubai Pass, and many more unnamed passes. 

Overall, you will enjoy the scenic trekking experience and get a chance to visit one of the world’s highest peaks. Moreover, you will be under the guidance of professionals in trekking and tourism, so your adventure will be secure and full of exciting events. 

Itinerary

Once you arrive in Kathmandu, we will pick you up at the Tribhuwan International Airport. We will greet you will introductions and introduce our team. You will rest for the day in your comfy hotel room.

The next day, we will take you sightseeing in the Kathmandu Valley. We will only be able to cover the major tourist attractions sights. You will be fascinated by the historical and religious heritage sites like Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Bauddhanath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, and many more.

Our trip to Biratnagar lies to the east of Nepal near the southern border of Nepal-India. The flight will be of 30-45 minutes and you need to be prepared for the tropical weather of Biratnagar. Once we get there, we’ll stay overnight at a hotel.

The next morning, we’ll have an early flight to Suketar, from where we will commence our trekking journey. An alternate option would be a flight to Taplejung, but it is likely to be interfered with due to bad weather. Once we get to Suketar, we will trek for about 6 hours to reach Mitlung.

Today, we will begin our journey toward the village of Chirwa. We will pass high rivers and come across three beautiful villages; Sinwa, Tawa, and Pork to reach there. Chirwa itself is a beautiful village with a happening market for you to buy souvenirs. We’ll stay overnight at a lodge.

Our trail follows along the Tamur river to descend toward Sumbua Khola, which comes from the famous Yalung Glacier. Sekathum is a beautiful Tibetan village to the northeast of Nepal. We’ll reach there after crossing Ghunsa Khola Valley. We’ll stay overnight at a lodge.

We’ll now ascend toward yet another Tibetan village of the region, Amjilossa. The trail is steep and narrow and follows along the northern banks of the Ghunsa Khola.

We’ll now finally get a glance at the beautiful snow-capped peak of Mt. Kanchenjunga from the west. Our trail ascends through forests of oak, bamboo, and rhododendron, and numerous steep climbs. We’ll also come across a large waterfall where you can take pictures and enjoy the views. We’ll stay overnight at a lodge in Gybala.

Today, we’ll finally ascend to the beautiful Tibetan village of Ghunsa. We’ll follow the trail along the banks of the river and cross the village of Kyapra. You can buy souvenirs at gompas and local shops in Ghunsa.

The route climbs gradually along the southern bank of the Ghunsa Khola, through beautiful rhododendron and pine forests. We’ll be passing many mani walls, colorful prayer flags, and chortens along the way. The trail climbs steeply up scree slopes to reach the Tibetan settlement of Khambachen, where we’ll see wonderful views of the huge north face of Jannu.

Our 10 days tour would make us pretty exhausted, so we’ll have a day’s rest in Khambachen. Moreover, our body must also adjust to climate change, pressure, altitude, and surroundings. You can take your time to hike around the nearby places and warm up.

The following sunrise, we will climb through the rocky path to the village of Ramtang. The highlight of this day is that we will cross the famous Kanchenjunga Glacier from the North West side. Shortly, we’ll arrive at Lhonak, where we can see astounding views of peaks like Wedge Peak (6750m), Mera Peak (6344m), Nepal Peak (6910m), and Twins (7351m).

Today, we’ll ascend to the North Base Camp of Kanchenjunga at Pangpema. We’ll again get majestic views of various nearby mountains and enjoy the views. However, we’ll return to Lhonak to stay overnight.

We’ll now follow our return trail to Ghunsa. Our journey will be pretty much the same except for some landscape changes.

Today, we’ll climb a steep path toward the High Camp. Although our journey will be only 500 meters, you might find it challenging due to climate and altitude. We’ll prepare for our next day’s climb to Mirgin-La Pass.

Today, we’ll trek through five major passes of the trek; first Tamo La (3900m), an unnamed pass (4115m), Mirgin La (4663m), Sinon La (4660m), and another unnamed pass at 4724m. We’ll then descend to the village of Tseram for an overnight stay.

Now, we can see the peaks to the east of the Nepal-India border like Koktang, Rathong, and many more, which stand above 7,000 meters altitude. Enjoying the spectacular views of the Himalayas, we’ll ascend to Ramche for an overnight stay.

Today, our trek will be taking us to the south face of Mt Kanchenjunga. We will ascend to the beautiful place, Oktang where we can see the magnificent views of the Himalayas. However, we will return to Ramche for the overnight stay.

The next morning, we will start our trekking journey early through the trails of a rhododendron forest. Then, our journey is followed by a short visit to Torontan, from where we will ascend through mossy forests to reach the pass at Lamite Bhanjyang.

We will now gently follow the trail along the descent to Imja Khola, where we will cross paths to reach the Dubi Pass. Our journey will be 1,000 meters today, but the majestic views will make all our hard work worth it. We’ll stay overnight at a lodge in Yamphudin.

We will again rest in Yamphudin and relive the exhaustion of the trek. You can explore the mixed-ethnic village of Yamphudin and know about the culture there.

We will now descend to the trail along the Kabeli Khola and cross a bridge to reach the village of Mamanke. We will again cross a suspension bridge along the trail and ascend steeply to the village of Ponphe. We’ll stay overnight here.

Today we will descend to the Limbu Village of Khunjari after passing through numerous small villages crossing a ridge. Once we reach there, you will be astonished by the ethnic culture of the village.

Our journey is coming to an end as we approach Suketar. We will descend from the Pha Khola through various villages and forests to Lali Kharka. After a gradual descent to SSuketar, we will stay overnight at a lodge there.

We have back-to-back flights today starting from Suketar to Biratnagar. After that, we will immediately depart for Kathmandu. By the end of the day, you will be resting in your comfy hotel room.

Our Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking ends on the last and 26th day. So, you’ll be returning home after a long, exhausting, and excellent trek. Today, we’ll drive you to the Tribhuwan International Airport concerning your scheduled flight.

At last, we will say our goodbyes and wish you well in your upcoming life experiences. You’ll be returning with excellent adventure memories with your crew and beautiful souvenirs of the place.
